Milling cutters and finishing cutters
A polishing head usually carries more than one tool. Milling (roughing) cutters remove saw marks and bring the edge flat and square. Finishing cutters take a final light pass and determine the surface — high gloss, gloss, translucent, satin or a glue surface.
The Bermaq AMI-C polishing disk carries four interchangeable tools, and the Kuper Euracryl ABP 310 ships with a Euracryl ES head for four cutters. The Euracryl Cube portables use the same family of 22 standard tools.
Why geometry and sharpness matter
Diamond cutting edges are ground to precise angles. That geometry, the edge's sharpness and how true the tool runs decide how cleanly the cutter shears acrylic rather than smearing or chipping it.
Even a small amount of runout or a chipped edge shows up as streaks, chatter marks or a hazy band. That's why balanced, sharp tooling matters as much as the machine itself.
Matching tooling to the finish
High gloss tools produce water-clear edges on PMMA. Satin tools leave a soft, uniform surface. Glue-surface tools leave a flat, fine-matte edge that bonds without trapping bubbles. Euracryl HIGH SPEED tools can raise feed rates by up to 200% on suitable jobs.
Because the finish comes from the tool, switching a machine from gloss to satin, or adding a gluing setup, is usually a tooling change rather than a new machine.
Tooling for other machines
Euracryl builds around 2,700 polishing and milling heads that fit 210 machine models from 61 manufacturers. If you run a brand we don't sell, there's a good chance a Euracryl head fits it. Tell us the machine and we'll confirm.
Signs a tool needs resharpening
Edges that were clear going cloudy, new streaks or chatter, needing to slow the feed to keep quality, or chips visible on the cutting edge. Before blaming the tool, check depth, feed and clamping — sometimes the cause is setup, not wear.
Resharpening regrinds the diamond edge to its original geometry and rebalances the tool. Done on schedule, it keeps finish quality steady and extends useful tool life.
Keeping a rotation
Production shops often keep a second set of finishing tools so one set can be out for resharpening without stopping the machine. Mail-in service from our Orange, California shop covers Bermaq, Euracryl and other brands' diamond tooling.
